Copperplate Script Manual – The Grids to Accompany the Manual

To get my version of copperplate script to work, I needed to build a geometric framework to house the letters in, this immediately populated the two main grids you find in the insider covers of the printed editions.

As I delved deeper into the letters, it became necessary to build more grids to mange the way in which the letters were understood in a logical progression.

Included in the grids are the grids I used in the studio. These are from 2mm to 9mm with a 55° line every 30mm with and without a vertical. I found these very useful to be able to grab something to write on or to size letters before addressing envelopes.

The grids also include the ‘Mapping Lines’ grids which trains you where to look for making the Connective Stroke and Line of Universal Beauty lines which make up the majuscules, as well as a corresponding grid which makes up the minuscules.
